Garage Floor Paint, the fastest and easiest way to improve the look of your Garage
Garage floor paint is easily one of the quickest ways of improving the overall look of your
Garage. If the floor is grubby and stained then a shiny painted floor will transform it quickly and easily. However
as with most painting jobs, the finished garage floor paint job will only be as good as the preparation.
If your Garage floor is stained and grubby, then painting over it without proper cleaning will
be a waste of time. A good power washing with degreaser and detergent should remove most stains, a steam cleaner
will also do a good job. You can usually rent one at the local tool hire shop. If the surface is really bad
then shot blasting may be needed or cleaning with a mild acid solution. These options may be better left to
professionals.
After washing you need to let the floor dry out completely and sweep and vacuum any dust or
particles that are left over. You really need to be doing this in warm dry weather, you just wont have proper
drying during damp winter months, unless of course you use a Heater. If your Garage floor is new then you
need to wait until it’s properly dried out before you can paint it. If your floor has no vapour barrier and
moisture comes up through the concrete then painting is just not going to last.
There are different types of Garage floor paint available, oil based is the most popular but for
a really tough finish epoxy is the best type to use. Remember solvent based epoxy will produce a lot of
unpleasant fumes, using this in a confined space is a safety hazard, you need plenty of ventilation and may also
need to wear a mask, make sure you read the safety guidelines supplied.
Garage floor paint will transform the appearance of your garage. It leaves the floor easy to
clean, reduces dust and allows spills to be cleaned up quickly and easily.
Choose the colour of your garage floor paint to match the rest of your house, but remember don’t
use too bright a colour it is just too hard to keep in good condition.
